Water Sandpaper: Aiding Efficient Polishing

Water sandpaper is a type of abrasive sandpaper that can be used in water. It is mainly used for grinding and polishing cars, furniture, leather, home appliance casings, and mechanical parts. It features water-assisted grinding, high surface smoothness of the workpiece, and no dust pollution during operation. The raw materials for water paper grit are usually abrasives such as silicon carbide or aluminum oxide, and the paper base is typically waterproof-treated kraft paper or water-resistant latex paper. These materials are firmly bonded together with adhesives like resin, forming a coated abrasive tool.

How to Use RMC ABRASIVE Water Sandpaper

Immersion Method

  • For fine grinding of small items, such as metal jewelry or small parts, it is recommended to completely immerse the item in water.

  • During the grinding process, continuously rinsing can effectively remove surface impurities and debris, not only improving work efficiency but also preventing fine particles from harming the operator.

  • This method is particularly suitable for situations that require the item's surface to remain smooth and clean.

Gradual Water Addition Method

  • For larger items, such as furniture or sculptures that cannot be completely immersed in water, it is suggested to first use coarse sandpaper for basic grinding to remove large areas of unevenness and burrs.

  • Then, use water paper grit while adding water as needed to meticulously handle the details.

  • This method helps control the amount of water used, while ensuring that every corner is fully polished.

Applications of Water Sandpaper

  • Car Detailing: Water sandpaper can be used for grinding and polishing car surfaces, especially for removing paint scratches. First, soak the sandpaper in water, gently grind the scratches, then use a polishing machine to restore, and finally, wax it.

  • Model Making: During model making, water sandpaper can be used to remove sprues, grind the notches of parts cut from the runner, etc. Additionally, fine-grit sandpaper can be used to remove the gloss of the paint, remove oxidation layers from metal parts, and restore their original metallic luster.

  • Furniture and Leather: Water paper grit also performs excellently for grinding and polishing furniture and leather products.

  • Home Appliance Casings: Grinding and polishing home appliance casings is also an important application area for water sandpaper.

Precautions for Using Water Sandpaper

  • Wear gloves to protect your hands from injury, firmly grip the water sandpaper, and press it close to the surface of the object to be ground, grinding evenly in one direction.

  • For wood products, grinding in the direction of the grain can avoid damaging the wood structure and maintain the material's integrity and aesthetics.

  • Avoid staying too long or grinding repeatedly in the same area to prevent excessive wear or uneven grind marks.

  • If the grinding effect is not satisfactory, try switching to sandpaper of different coarseness to adjust the grinding result.

  • The initial few passes of grinding are crucial and need to ensure a flat and flawless base surface, laying a good foundation for subsequent fine grinding. This not only improves work efficiency but also ensures the quality of the final product.
